Good day! I apologise for the lateness of this first update, but many a thing has happened and I found myself pressed for time when it came to writing a segment for the blog.
Indeed, over a week and a half has passed and an extraordinary amount of things have happened to me, even in this short amount of time. I have slept in a church graveyards, protected by my own personal police bodyguards in Waterlooville, witnessed a woman's waters breaking in a motorway-side Little Chef, and received a lovely wooden plaque (sadly I do not know who this is from, as it was left by my tent for me to find in the morning) with "happiness is a journey, not a destination" written onto it. It is incredible just how supportive and hospitable people have been along the way - and though we met as strangers, I feel that in many I have found a friend. I would thus like to thank all of you who have taken an interest in what I am doing and those who have aided me along the way - including Claire from Liss for providing me with a lovely breakfast and encouraging words; Sarah and Derek, whom I met on my way into East Meon; Rosie, Ellie and John from The Spur pub in Slindon and B, Cheryl and Rita, walkers along the South Downs Way, - all for their generous contributions to the charity also. Not to mention Mike and Jenny for the outstanding hospitality providing a bed and both warm dinner and breakfast! The walking has been going well, though challenging and difficult at times. Especially recently where I have bought an ankle and knee brace to support my leg through the ordeal I am putting against it. Despite this, I am really enjoying the time I have spent walking, the different places I have seen and incredible people I have met throughout my travels so far. The weather has really held up so far (thank goodness) despite being promised "rain on Friday" by countless people! I am eager to press on and continue regardless, but I'm certainty not going to complain if the weather stays like this! I haven't been walking quite as far each day recently due to my leg, but I hope to be up and going further again very soon. Thank you all again and stay tuned for more pictures and updates to come! Unfortunately Andy could not connect to the Internet and therefore could not send any photos from today! Hi and thank you for being patient… Its been difficult to update the blog ‘on the go’, thus the responsibility is given over to me, Andy's sister, to update you all.
1 week in and Andrew is well on his way! Stepping out from his front door on Monday, April 13th Andy's journey began with great anticipation and some great weather to go with it! Initially headed out west into Hampshire, Andy made great progress to hit the south coast by Thursday, thrilled to see water and feel the sea air as Portsmouth welcomed him. He has since moved east to Chichester and beyond, Brighton awaits next. Well over 80 miles to date! And Andy has many stories to share. From sleeping in a cemetery with police bodyguards to a woman’s waters breaking in front of him (!) its been quite a journey so far and Andy is extremely grateful to all those he has met on the journey who have been so kind and generous. It spurs him on and gives great encouragement! Please leave comments and I promise to be updating the blog more regularly! I will try to keep updating the photos as and when I can from Andy's snapchat blog. If you want to follow his journey on snapchat, his username is unsafeman121 |
